Helen M. (Rowles) Stewart

Helen M. Stewart, 85, of Lewistown, passed away at 8:21 a.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.        

Born Sept. 6, 1936, in Perulack, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Russell Rowles and Mary (Berrier) Rowles-Smeigh.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: husband, John J. Stewart Sr.; daughter, JoAnne Taylor; son, John J. Stewart Jr.; and her brothers, Paul, Russell and Glenn Rowles.  

Helen is survived by: daughter, Melody Smith and husband, Rick, of Lewistown, four grandchildren, Kevin Stewart and wife, Megan, of Rhode Island, and Douglas Taylor, John Stewart III and wife, Amanda, and Zach Smith and wife, Danielle, all of Lewistown; great-grandchildren, Damon and Aubrey Stewart and Finley Sheehan-Stewart; and sisters, Dora Smith, of Montoursville, and Minnie Tausher, of Middletown. 

Early in life, she worked at Cluett Peabody and the American Viscose Corporation.

Helen loved spending time with her family, who was most important to her.  She also enjoyed playing bingo and games of chance.   

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, at Juniata Memorial Park, 9010 US Highway 522 South, Lewistown, with Pastor Chris Lutz officiating.  

Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
