Gary Lee Dean, Sr.

Gary Lee Dean Sr., 57, of Shamokin Dam, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.               

Born Aug. 28, 1964, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late George W. Dean, and Isla Mary (Zakutney) Dean, of Lewistown, who survives. 

In addition to his mother, Gary is survived by: his wife, Joyce (Tate) Dean, whom he married Aug. 15, 2009; son, Gary Lee Dean Jr., of Lewistown; stepson, Ryan Tate, of Yeagertown; and his brother, Randy Dean and wife, Kimberly, of Lewistown.     

He was a graduate of Lewistown High School, Class of 1984.  Gary also graduated from Blue Rock Vocational School as a certified electrician.   

He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran.     

Gary was a member of Christ Community Church in Selinsgrove, where he led the men’s ministry program.  He was a believer in the Gideon philosophy that each man be ready to do God’s will at any time.  Along with his wife, Joyce, they were always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Gary was larger than life with an incredible sense of humor.  He was an avid gardener, kept a neat yard and enjoyed socializing with his neighbors. 

A viewing will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021, at Calvary Baptist Church, Third Street, Lewistown, followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m., with Pastor Sean Moon officiating. 

Interment will take place at Fort Indiantown Gap Cemetery on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 12:30 p.m. 

Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
