Daniel Carlin Obituary

Daniel Michael Carlin, East Waterford, passed away on May 4, 2021.  He was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 17, 1946, to Stanley Guzikowski-Carlin, and Adela (Lelin) Carlin.  He was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church.  He grew up in Flushing, New York.  He was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Mifflintown.

Dan attended and graduated from St. Luke’s Catholic parochial grade school in Whitestone, New York.  He attended and graduated from Food and Maritime High School in Manhattan, New York.  He graduated with an Applied Science degree in Food Processing Technology from State Agricultural and Technical College, Farmingdale, New York.  He completed a Bachelor of Science degree from Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA. 

Working for Y & S Candies in Brooklyn, New York, as a Research and Development Technician, he was promoted to Hershey Foods Chocolate as a Manager of Quality Assurance.  He advanced to Director of Quality Assurance for their pasta division, New World Pasta, a division of Hershey Foods Corporation.  Dan worked under Hershey for 37 years.

Dan married Blanca Aguilar in 1971, with whom he had two sons.  Dan married Antoinette Burrows in 1994, with whom he had a stepdaughter and a stepson.  Dan married Jerri Morton in 2012, with whom he had three stepsons.

During his career, Dan was a member of many food science and technology boards.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, archery, and being a hobby farmer with horses and sheep.  Dan was very artistic—drawing landscapes, writing songs, and playing guitar.  He was a superb cook and enjoyed hosting family dinners.

He is survived by his wife, Jerri Morton Carlin; children, David Carlin (Beth Hyland) and Ryan Carlin (Angela); stepchildren, Tauna Finkenbinder (Jordan) and Cody Burrows; and stepchildren, Paul Morton (Courtnie), Thomas Morton (Jennifer), and James Morton (Stacy).  Dan was grandfather to Abigail Carlin, Jane Carlin, Adam Carlin, and Andrew, Benjamin, Caleb, Wallace, Beau, Raegan, and Link Morton.  He is also survived by his brothers, Edward and Michael; his sister, Gloria; and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Delores, his parents, and wife, Antoinette. 

A Service in Celebration of the Faith in Christ and Life of Daniel Carlin will be held at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Dona Cummings presiding. Burial is following the Service at Concord Union Cemetery, Concord, PA. 

Visitation is at the Funeral Home on Friday, May 7, 2021, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Guests are required to follow current CDC guidelines and to wear masks.

Memorials to honor Dan are suggested to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, and the National Cancer Institute NCI Research.
