Carol Alexander Obituary

Carol Ann Alexander, 80, of Lewistown, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021, at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Services, after a nasty battle with ALS.

Born Feb. 5, 1941, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late David and Sarah (Kohler) Hostetler.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Schue.

Carol is survived by: husband, Garren E. Alexander; children, Dana Crall and husband, Steven, of Harrisburg, and Michael Alexander, of Lewistown; stepson, Philippe Stuhler, of Saint Saud, France; three grandchildren, Alexander Crall, Stevie Lynn Crall, and Everett Crall; two step-grandchildren, Nathanaelle Stuhler and Johan Stuhler; step-great-grandchild, Ozyas Stuhler; and siblings, Fredrick Hostetler and wife, Geri, of Woodland Park, Colorado, and Susan Whitesel, of Carlisle.  She also is survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Carol graduated with honors from Rothrock High School, Class of 1959.   She participated in the high school choir, played violin, and favored English class.  She had several friends, and she never got caught skipping gym class.  After graduation, she completed college classes and became a successful Insurance Assistant at the Prudential Insurance Company.  After four years of employment at Prudential, she and Garren started their family.  Carol was a caring, loving, and supportive mother to her children, Dana and Michael.  She was a fabulous seamstress and handmade her children’s clothing, comforters, sleeping bags, pillows, stuffed toys, and dolls.  Carol and Garren shared a wonderful life together for 61 years.

Carol was last employed as a Customer Service Representative at the First National Bank in Reedsville.  During her lifetime, she diligently worked in several positions over 37 years at the Russell/Omega/FNB Bank in downtown Lewistown, and Reedsville.  She took pride in her work as she served customers with their banking needs.  She also cared so much about the bank employees as she went over and above to support, assist, and help them grow within the company.

Carol was a beautiful and loving grandmother who appeared 20 years younger than her stated age.   She loved spending time with her grandchildren at the Malta Park, and the McDonald’s Playplace when they were small.  As they became older, she was so proud of their choices, abilities, and endeavors.  She enjoyed traveling to Cancun, Mexico to relax on the beach; and flying to Paris, France to visit her Stuhler family.  She loved to go shopping and find treasures with Dana.  She enjoyed collecting lots of trinkets, dishes, and jewelry.  Carol also loved to read romance novels, solve crossword puzzles, and watch her soap operas.

Carol loved and greatly appreciated all of her nurses and caregivers at the William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.  Her nurses and caregivers went above and beyond to make sure that Carol was comfortable during her battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease.)   Carol also loved her bestie-roommate, Darlene Snook who became her voice when she could not speak.
