Carla (Burdick) Dempsey

Carla Burdick Dempsey, 69, of Lewistown, passed away at 10:41 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Born March 2, 1953, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of George W. Burdick, of Yeagertown, who survives, and the late Mary L. (Burkholder) Burdick.

In addition to her father, she is survived by:  husband, John “Jack” Dempsey; son, Lance Peachey and wife, Ashley; brother, Chris Burdick and wife, Sharon; niece, Landrey Burdick; nephew, Brooks Burdick; and best friend, Cathy VanScyoc, all of Lewistown.

She was a graduate of Chief Logan High School and Mansfield University.

Carla was a member of Yeagertown United Methodist Church.

She was employed in various positions in the field of mental health for over 40 years, lastly at Juniata Valley Behavioral and Developmental Services and Northwestern Human Services.

Carla was always the life of the party and brought a smile to everyone’s face when she entered a room.  She loved spending time with her family and in her earlier days, trips to Raystown Lake, Poe Valley and her Juniata River lot.  Carla had a kind heart, loved all animals and rescued many in need throughout her life.  She enjoyed fishing, boating, cooking and reading.  Her favorite movies were “The Wizard of Oz” and “It’s a Wonderful Life”.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan Street, Lewistown.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 6, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan Street, Lewistown, with Reverend Steven Small officiating.

Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
