William “Bill” T. Mellott, 96, of McClure, went home peacefully to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his wife Bonnie, on Friday, June 21, 2019,
Born Sept. 21, 1922, in Coalport, he was the son of the late William H. Mellott and Lottie (Beers) Mellott.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Eloise M. “Bonnie” Mellott, his beloved wife of 69 years, who passed on March 7, 2019; sisters, Dorothy Colyer, Florence Jordan, Virginia Lepley and Annis Downing; brother, Jack Mellott.
He is survived by nieces: Holly Ellers and husband, Rich, of Centre Hall, Jill Knepp and husband, Neil, of Reedsville, Carolyn Gregg and husband, Gary, of Shippensburg, Kitty Walters and husband, Wade, of Burnham, Debbie Smoker, Lewistown, Dianna Mellott, Lewistown; nephew, Michael McCartney and wife, Kathy, of Burnham and other nieces and nephews., Peggy McCartney, sister-in-law, Burnham; brother-in-law’s: Charles Hockensmith Jr. and wife, Susan, of Hanover; John T. Hockensmith and wife, Jeannie, of New Oxford; Harold Hockensmith and wife, Terry of Hanover; friends Norman Shawver, Louis Knepp, Ron and Neta Knepp
Bill was a 1942 graduate of Lewistown High School. He entered the United States Army after high school and was a First Battalion mechanic until 1954; proudly served in World War II and the Korean conflict.
Bill was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Alfarata, Belltown Beagle Club, American Legion, Moose, and VFW
Bill worked for the state as an auditor. He was the owner of the Point Store in McClure for 20 years.
Bill enjoyed traveling with Bonnie in their RV throughout the U.S. and wintering in Florida, hunting, fishing, boating, woodworking, gardening and riding his tractor and golf cart. He proudly told stories of his military service. Bill loved his family, pets, and friends, who will greatly miss his patriotism, smile, enthusiasm, sense of humor and daily adventures.
Receiving of friends will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 6, at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 573 Alfarata Road, Lewistown; a memorial service at 10:30 with Pastor Michael Sigler officiating; followed by interment at Lind Memorial Cemetery. VFW Honors Post 7011 will be presented.
Arrangements are under the care of Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
