Wilfred C. "Wiff" Smith, 88, of Burnham, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019, at his home.
Born Jan. 29, 1931, in Burnham, he was a son of the late Charles J. and Sarah K. (Baker) Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his first wife, Gladys L. (Bressler) Smith; second wife, Wilma P. (Graham) Smith; a daughter, Marilyn L. Gavitt; an infant brother; sister, C. June Snyder; and a step-daughter, Wilma Nancy Durant.
Wilfred is survived by: his son, David Smith and wife, LaDonna, of Lewistown; eight grandchildren, Andrew Smith and wife, Jessica, of Burnham, Mikal Gavitt and wife, Jennifer, of Eagles Mere, Pa., Vicki Fox, Sandi Hedrickson and spouse, Jim, David Durant and wife, Mary Ann, Dianna Case, and Melissa Smith, all of Ohio, and Tami Whittington and husband, John, of Indiana; 19 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren; and siblings, Harold "Dick" Smith, of Burnham, Shirley Hess, of Hershey, Kay Baumgardner and husband, Jerry, of Lewistown, Ethel Carter, of Baltimore, Md., Dennis Smith and wife, Nancy, of Holly Springs, N.C., and Pamela Zeiders and husband, Paul, of Yeagertown.
He graduated from Burnham High School, Class of 1949, and was Presbyterian by faith.
Wilfred was co-owner and operator of Smith's Gulf Service Station for 53 years, retiring in 2008.
He enjoyed hunting, camping with his friends, and traveling to many parts of the western United States, Alaska and Canada, in search of big game.
He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons McVeytown Lodge #376, Lewistown Elks Club, Union County Sportsmen's Club, and life member of the Lewistown Moose Family Center #143, Burnham Fire Company and the North American Hunting Club.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2019, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with special Masonic rites provided.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019, at the funeral home, with Reverend Robert Zorn officiating.
Interment will take place at Birch Hill Cemetery, with tent and chairs provided.
