Susan Grace Bender-Armstrong, 53, of Decatur Township, McClure, went to be with her Lord and Savior, at 4:25 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at the Pittsburgh Veterans Affairs Hospital.
Born Jan. 25, 1966, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Richard "Butch" and Alice (Carolus) Bender, of McClure, who survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold L. Armstrong, and a grandson, Jahven Michael Armstrong.
In addition to her parents, Susan is survived by: her loving son, Michael Armstrong and wife, Janelle, of McClure; grandson, Connor Michael Armstrong; two brothers, Butch Bender and wife, Collette, of McClure, and Bill Bender and wife, Ingrid, of Cranberry; nephew, Jake Bender and wife, Meghan, and their children, James, Jackson, Lukie and Joey; nephew, Christian Bender; and loving nieces, Britta, Gretta, Martta and Ava.
She graduated from Chief Logan High School, Class of 1983.
She served as an Army Administrative Specialist from 1985 to 1990, stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany.
Susan attended Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Lewistown and was employed as a sales associate at the Lewistown Walmart for many years.
She will always be remembered for her beaming smiles and many acts of kindness shown toward others.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Ave., Burnham.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Indiantown Gap Road, Annville, with Rev. Barry Spencer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Susan's memory may be made to Bethel AME Church, PO Box 1047, Lewistown, PA 17044-1047.
