Robert Rager Obituary

Robert R. “Bob” Rager, 85, of McClure, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019, at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.

Born April 2, 1934, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Ranzel B.  and Mary G. (Rabenstein) Rager.

He is survived by: his wife, Helen (Houser) Rager, who he married in 1954; children, Annette M. Rager and wife, Robin Randolph, of Lewistown, and Michelle L. Fisher, of Reedsville; granddaughter, Kayla A. Fisher; three step-grandsons, Joshua, Nathan and Tyler Fisher.

He was a graduate of Armagh-Brown High School, Class of 1953.

Bob was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church for 50 years. He served on the church council for many years and many times as the President. He enjoyed singing and was a member of the choir. He was attending Trinity Lutheran Church, in McClure. Bob was a member of Masonic Lodge #203, Harrisburg Consistory, Jaffa Shrine, a supervisor for Decatur township and on the Board of Directors at Shade Mountain golf course. He also served as president of Chief Logan band boosters.

After high school, Bob entered the U.S. Army and served from 1954 to 1957. He attended drafting school in Fort Belvoir, VA, served 30 months in France. He was in the Honor Guard and traveled throughout Europe dedicating the second WWII cemeteries.

Bob worked at First National Bank and Standard Steel where he was a supervisor in production for 30 years, retiring in 1993.

Bob loved his family. He enjoyed cooking soups, especially chili. He enjoyed attending his daughters and granddaughters’ school activities and liked to go to Penn State football and Lady Lions Basketball games. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and playing golf and liked to go to camp to hunt.

A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6 W. Specht St., McClure, with a Masonic service to start at 2 p.m. and funeral service to follow with Pastor Lisa Schuster officiating.

Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the care of Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn.
