Richard 'Dick' R. Royer, Sr.

Richard R. "Dick" Royer Sr., 79, of Derry Township, Lewistown, passed away at 10:01 p.m., Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at his home.

Born May 7, 1940, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late John W. and Mildred (Yetter) Royer.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a son, Richard R. Royer Jr., March 6, 2010; brothers, Jack, John Jr., Weldon, Max, Bud, Robert and Daniel Royer; and sisters, Rosalynd Brannon, Wanda Brannan, Doris Osborne, Hazel Corly and Dorothy Stong.

Dick is survived by: his wife, Anna (Burkett) Royer, whom he married Dec. 13, 1961; children, Robin Eicker, of Mechanicsburg, Carole Shirey, of Mt. Pleasant Mills, and Don Royer and wife, Lynn, of Lewistown; daughter-in-law, Donna Royer, of Lewistown; eight grandchildren, Nicole Walls, Brandon Eicker, Jessica Tabb, Richie Royer III, Stephanie Royer, Kristy Whistler, Don Royer Jr., and Timothy Royer; 13 great-grandchildren, Brynn, Addison, Charles, Abigail, Derek, Dallas, Halena, Ollie, Sadie, Blake, Kendra, Madison, and Timothy Jr.; sisters, Ruth Bishop and husband, Steve, of Ferguson Valley, Marie Miller, and Linda Davis and husband, Jerry, both of Lewistown; and many nieces and nephews.

Dick was baptized at St. Mark's Episcopal Church.  He most recently attended First United Methodist Church, Lewistown.

He worked in construction and blasting, retiring from Glenn O. Hawbaker construction.

Dick enjoyed gardening, creating flower beds, woodworking and crafts.  He loved spending time with his large family.  One of his stand-out features was that he insisted on ensuring anyone visiting his home had plenty to eat and drink, as he continued to offer until something was accepted.  His family will miss his nurturing demeanor.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019, at the funeral home, with Mr. Buck Carolus officiating.

Interment will take place at Lind Memorial Cemetery, Green Ave., Lewistown.
