Melda R. Leister, 104, formerly of Lewistown, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at Locust Grove Retirement Village.
Born September 15, 1915, in Oliver township, she was a daughter of the late Hurley R. and Bessie M. (Houser) Wagner.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: her husband, Eugene A. Leister, whom she married on Nov. 18, 1933, and died on Dec.6, 2000; two sons, Larry Sherwood Leister, and an infant son; and one daughter, Deanna Kay; ten brothers and four sisters, Melda was the last of her immediate family.
She is survived by: many nieces and nephews.
Melda was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, a member of Augsbury Sunday School Class, of which she served as a secretary. She was a member L.C.W. and the Lewistown Senior Citizens Center where she served as Treasurer, Vice President and President, she volunteered for many years.
She worked at the shirt factory in McClure and in the Lewistown areas.
Melda enjoyed going to church, the senior center and talking with her friends in the nursing homes.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., with Rev. Jerri Carlin officiating.
Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park.
