Mary Sylvia Smith

Mary Sylvia Smith, 89, of Lewistown, passed away, Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, at her home.

Born Nov. 4, 1929, in McClure, she was the daughter of the late Freeman F. and Stella (Boonie) Reitz.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: brothers, Freeman F. Reitz Jr., Harold J. Reitz and James F. Reitz.

She is survived by: her husband, Lewis H. Smith, to whom she recently celebrated 70 years of marriage; daughter, Sandra Jones and husband, Thomas, of Kennett Square; grandchildren, Jeromie Jones and wife, Kyle, of Kennett Square, Tyler Jones, of West Chester; great-grandchildren, Jaidyn, Aubrey, Peyton, Cameron, Everett and Shea Jones; siblings, Carl S. Reitz and wife, Edie, of Selinsgrove, Kenneth S. Reitz and wife, Shirley, of Lewistown, Ricky L. Reitz and wife, Carla, of McClure, Steven L. Reitz and companion, Deb Runk, of Lewistown; and sister-in-law, Nancy Reitz, of Salunga.

She was a graduate of McClure High School.

Mary was a member of Ellen Chapel Church, the Women of the Moose Auxiliary, Junction Fire Co. Auxiliary, Fort Granville Grange and Elks Auxiliary.

Earlier in life, she worked at the Arrow Shirt Factory. Later, she opened and operated Sylvia’s Beauty Shop until she retired in 1993.

A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at Ellen Chapel Church, 11764 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. at the church, with Reverend Mark Hill officiating.

A private interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sylvia’s name may be made to Ellen Chapel Church.
