James Wentle Obituary

James S. Wentle, 93, of Burnham, passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018.

Born April 10, 1925 in Burnham, he was a son of the late Lester Wentle and Ruth (McKalips) Wentle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary T. Stoicheff, whom he married in 1946, and passed away in 1982.

He is survived by: wife, Arlene Heckert Johnson Wentle, whom he married in 1984; children, James T. Wentle and wife, Dawn, of Burnham, Cathy McClenahen and husband, Dan, of Reedsville, Terry L. Wentle, of Gardners; stepchildren, Cheryl Clark, of Tunkhannock, Kathy Heeter and husband, Jim, of Lewistown, Bob Johnson and wife, Janine, of Lewistown, Phyllis Varner and husband, Cole, of Lewistown; grandchildren, Geoffrey T. Wentle, Matt McClenahen, and Megan Boyer; step-grandchildren, Christopher Isenberg, Megan Bowers, Andrea Brechbiel, Lyndie Sipe; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Wilkinson, of Centre Hall.

Jim spent most of his working life at Standard Steel working as a boiler repairman, retiring in 1987.

He was an avid reader of history. Having served in WWII, he was especially interested in that time period. He was community minded. He served on the Chief Logan School Board with a term as president. He also served on and off for many years on the Burnham Borough Council and was almost 90 when he last served on the council.

Earlier in life, he was a member of the Burnham Presbyterian Church where he was very involved with the physical maintenance of the church as he served as a trustee. Later in life, he became a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a member of Local Masonic Lodge and VFW in Milroy.

Jim was mechanically gifted and helped his family with many projects and repairs throughout the years. The lifelong resident of Burnham was also interested in current affairs and followed the news closely. He voted in every election, if it was physically possible.

Jim often commented on what a good life he had and was grateful that he and Arlene had the opportunity to travel. He often said he had two wonderful wives and happy marriages.

He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a good man, good citizen and an asset to his community who will be dearly missed.

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., on Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m., at the funeral home with Reverend Robert Zorn officiating.
