Galen E. Varner, 71, of Lewistown, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at his home.
Born February 20, 1948, in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late Beattie and Almeda (Zinn) Varner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Nancy (Haffly) Varner, Dec. 29, 2012; seven brothers, Charles, Richard, Russell, Rodney, Glenn, Floyd, and David "Lee" Varner; and sisters, Freda Ferguson and Dorothy Sheaffer.
Galen is survived by: his daughter, Angela K. Varner and companion, Herbert Cavanaugh Sr., of Lewistown; grandchildren, Patrick Swartz and fiance, Chelsea Brandt, of Shippensburg, and Katlyn Clepper, of Newville; great-grandchildren, Lola Swartz, Ahren Alvarez, and Dylan Kelly; and siblings, Robert Varner and wife, Virginia, of Shippensburg, Fay Over, of Shippensburg, and Kenneth Varner and wife, Joan, of Newville.
Galen was a Vietnam Army veteran assigned to the 20th Engineer Brigade as a helicopter mechanic.
He retired from Overhead Door Corporation with 25 years of service in maintenance and shipping.
Galen was a member of VFW Post 7011, Lewistown, and an avid car enthusiast.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Nov. 23, 2019, at the funeral home, with Pastor Randy Traxler officiating.
Interment with military honors will take place at Lind Memorial Cemetery, Green Ave., Lewistown.
