Sheldon W. French, 75, of Belleville died at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center.

Born Aug. 29, 1939 in McVeytown he was a son of the late Mark E. and Mary (Harshbarger) French.

Sheldon is survived by: his wife, Thelma Y.  (Yoder) French, whom he married Dec. 30, 1961; son, Brad French and wife, Darby, of Barre, Massachusetts, daughters, Michelle French, of Elizabethtown and Angie French-Reese and husband, James, of Palmyra; granddaughter, Laura Reese; sisters, Faith Yoder, of Grand Junction, Colorado and Andrea Kauffman, of McVeytown; and a brother, Randy French, of McVeytown.

Sheldon was in the 1-W service in Fort Wayne, Indiana from 1961-1963 and had worked as a welder at New Holland.

He was an active and dedicated member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church and was willing to serve wherever he was needed.

He loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting, farming and gardening.

Sheldon had a sense of humor and an outgoing personality making him a friend to all. He was a very kind and generous man who loved life and spending time with his family and friends.

He and Thelma enjoyed the simple pleasures of life together for 53 years and one of his greatest joys was his granddaughter, Laura, his little sunshine. Sheldon is a man who will be greatly missed.

A memorial will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1 at Maple Grove Mennonite Church, 115 Maple Grove Road, Belleville, with Pastors Alan Kauffman and Herb Zook officiating.

All arrangements are under the care of Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham.
