S. Virginia (Elliott) Davies

S. Virginia Davies, 97, formerly of Lewistown, passed at 4:40 AM, Friday at Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte. 

Born on July 16, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Hoyt and Mary (Neal) Elliott. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by the following: her first husband, Edward H. Haines, in 1965 and her second husband, Horace W. Davies, in 1994. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, and one sister, a step daughter Darcia M. Hoopes of Delaware, a granddaughter Lauren Monroe of Virginia, and a step son-in–law Gerald Buckreis of Virginia.  

Virginia is survived by: step children Denise Buckreis of Virginia, Horace and Sherry Davies of Texas, Darryl and Lana Davies of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and also many nieces and nephews  

Earlier in life she was co-owner and operator of Haines Toy and Auto Supply on Valley Street, Lewistown for 15 years. 

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Lewistown since the 1950’s. 

Virginia attended First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs, Florida; charter member Lewistown B.P.W. Christian Women’s Club, Gleaner’s Sunday School class where she taught 7th and 8th grade Sunday School class for several years, was church treasurer for 21 years and was a past president of American Baptist Women. 

Virginia loved to travel, was a huge Penn State football fan and was very active in church activities. 

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, March 2 at First Baptist Church, 111 East Third Street, Lewistown the Rev. Paul Carter officiating.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc. Woodlawn, 200 North Main St. Lewistown. Another viewing will be at the church 10 a.m. to the time of service.

A private interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park.
