Richard E. Shilling, 87, of Lewistown, died at 3:55 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017 at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lewistown.
Born July 22, 1929, in Burnham, he was the son of the late Mary (Baumgardner) and Cloyd Shilling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Betty J. (Smith) Shilling, on Sept. 2, 2016; a brother, Harry F. “Whitey” Shilling; and two half-brothers, John Larson and Charles Miller.
Richard is survived by: his children, Denice Caouette and husband, Wayne, of Waynesboro, and Margaret Wynn and husband, Fletcher, of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Patricia Noll and husband, Richard, Patrick Wynn and wife, Aimee, and Sean Wynn and wife, Natasha; great-grandchildren, Lance Cpl. Nathan Frechette, Tara Kelly, Riley Wynn, and Connley Wynn; and siblings, Kenneth Shilling and wife, Nina, James Shilling and wife, Geraldine, and Ida Catherine Wheeler, all of Lewistown, and Cloyd Shilling, of Ashland, Ohio.
Richard was a supply specialist with the U.S. Army and retired as a Sergeant First Class on Dec. 11, 1968. He later worked as a security officer for Sitkin Smelting and Refining and as a cashier for Bill Clark Auctioneering.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Reverend Randy Traxler officiating.
A receiving of friends will be held from 10:30 – 11:30 at the funeral home.
Private interment will take place in Juniata Memorial Park, with military honors provided by VFW Post 7011.
