Marie E. (Kepler) Smith

Marie E. Smith, 102, formerly of Yeagertown passed away at 3:15 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 19,2017 at Valley View Haven.

Born Sept. 9, 1915 in Mifflintown, she was a daughter of the late Silas Lester Kepler and Stella (Steffen) Hearn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Charles E. Smith, on May 27, 1993; son Gary L. Smith; and a sister, Jane Judson.

She is survived by: son, Larry L. Smith, of Washington; daughter, Karen A. Young and husband, Dennis, of McClure, and daughters-in-law, Jane E. Smith and Paula A. Smith; eight grandchildren, Brian Young and fiancée, Amanda Seese, Daniel Young and wife, Valerie, David Young, Hilarie Mohn and husband, Ryan, Aleta Jaen and husband, Henry, Nathan Smith, Micah Smith and Kelli Brownsberger; 12 great-grandchildren, Aaron Johnson, Collin and Dylan Young, Paityn Young, Elijah Jaen, Paul Jaen, Ashley Driesbach, Abbey Driesbach, Mackenzie and Brittnay Brownsberger, Maximus Smith, and Bronson Smith Price; and one great-great- grandchild, Asher Sage.

She was a graduate of Yeagertown High School.

Earlier in life, she had worked as a secretary at Standard Steel, Justice of the Peace and cashier at Chief Logan High School.

Marie was a charter member of Calvary Bible Church and a member of Gideon’s Ladies Auxiliary.  She taught Good News Club for Child Evangelism for many years in her home and also taught the Ladies Bible class for many years at Calvary Bible.

A viewing will be held from 10 – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 25 at Valley View Haven Chapel, Belleville with a funeral service to follow at 11 with Rev. Howard Houtz officiating.

Interment will take place in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham.
