Larry R. Armstrong, 84, of Lewistown, passed away at 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016 at the Golden Living Center-William Penn.

Born April 17, 1932 in Reedsville, he was a son of the late Pearl (Dippery) and Harry L. Armstrong. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: two sons, Trent Christopher (in infancy) and Rodney W. Armstrong, on July 19, 2013; a brother, Harry Armstrong, Jr.; and a sister, Sarah Jane Christensen. 

He is survived by: his wife, Janet (Henry) Armstrong, whom he married in May 1952; a son, Robin L. and wife, Wanda (Brower) Armstrong, of Shindle; daughter-in-law, Judy (Brannan) Armstrong, of Lewistown; four grandsons, Aaron, of Shindle, Nicholas, of Pittsburgh, Jarod, of Lewistown, and Lucas, of New Lancaster Valley; seven great-grandsons; a great granddaughter; a brother, Charles Armstrong and wife, Mary, of Reedsville; and a sister, Linda Rudy and husband, Ron, of Elliotsburg.

Larry was a Navy veteran who served during the Korean War from July 1949 to April 1953 as an electrician’s mate aboard the USS Roanoke.

Following his discharge, he worked at Laurel Locks Farms in Pottstown and later, at the New Holland Machine Co. in Belleville, retiring in 1987 after 32 years.

He was a member of the Maitland Church of the Brethren, where he served on various committees, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School.

Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, attending church functions, riding his Honda, and reading.  After retirement, he was an avid golfer until he got into antiques.  He especially enjoyed collecting milk bottles from Mifflin County and surrounding areas and was a contributor to the book, “The Milk Man Cometh”.  He and his wife Janet belonged to the Dairyland Co-op Antique Center from 1994 until its closing in 2013.    

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016 at the Maitland COB, 315 Crossover Drive, Lewistown, with the Rev. Charles Eldredge officiating.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday., Aug. 24, 2016 at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, and on Thursday, from 10-11 a.m. until the time of service at the church. 

Interment will take place in Wagner Cemetery, McClure, with military honors provided by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.
