Eric J. Skarbowski, 30, of Plymouth Meeting, PA, died peacefully at his home on March 22, 2017. He was born at Fort Hood, Texas and lived in Texas, Arizona, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania throughout his life.

Eric graduated from Ocean Township High School in NJ in 2005 where he was a varsity swimmer and played the trombone in marching, concert, and jazz band. Eric was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Oakhurst, NJ.

After high school, Eric took various courses at Brookdale Community College, Kutztown University, and Montgomery County Community College. He worked at the ARC of NJ, Geo Group, CIGNA, and most recently as an intern for PA State Representative Mary Jo Daley.

Eric's heart was in working with people who experience developmental and intellectual disabilities. Eric earned numerous certificates from the Elizabeth M. Boggs Center on Developmental Disability at the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine in Positive Behavior Supports, Person-Centered Thinking, and Lifestyle Planning. He also received a certificate in Mental Health First Aid USA from the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare.

Eric was a Christian and served Christ in various ways while in his United Methodist youth group, and later as an Associate of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Chestnut Hill Villa.

Eric was an avid reader, video game player, and computer enthusiast which included being certified as a Comp TIA, and an A+ technician. He was a dog lover, with his beloved dog Mira as his constant companion. He was also a devoted Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  

Despite a life of recurring illness, Eric persisted and lived his life with dignity, love, and passion for family. Eric is survived by his parents COL (US Army ret.) Joseph and Deaconess Barbara Skarbowski (Fensterbush) of Lancaster PA, his sister Emily of Indiana PA, his grandmother Lois Fensterbush of Lewistown PA, his best friend and roommate Joseph Randzo of Plymouth Meeting PA, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ronald R. Fensterbush and his paternal grandparents, Anne E. (Winslow) and Stephen J. Skarbowski.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St. Lewistown with Rev. James Thomas officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown.
