Dora LaRue (Smoker) Yoder

Dora LaRue (Smoker) Yoder, 84, of Lewistown, formerly of Frederick, Md., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

She was the wife of Donald A. Yoder for 61 years, and the daughter of the late Andrew and Lillian (Specht) Smoker.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet Nywening and husband, Dan, of Las Cruces, N.M., and Joy Yoder, of Frederick, Md. She was the grandmother of Sarah Rice and husband, Chris, of Harleysville, and Sharon Nywening, of Greenville, S.C.; and great-grandmother of Cassandra Rice and Shane Rice. Dora is also survived by a special niece, Anna Mae Billet, who was more like a sister to her; along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dora was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Harry, Ralph and Dave Smoker; and her sisters, Anna Cavanaugh and Helen Snyder.

She was a 1952 graduate of Reedsville High School. After high school, she worked at G.C. Murphy's for a few years and then became a full time homemaker. She especially enjoyed baking, puzzles and playing games.

Dora attended God's Missionary Church in Beavertown. In earlier years, while living in Frederick, Md., she taught Sunday school, helped with VBS, sang in the choir and helped with the Young Adult group. She attended Mahaffey Camp Meetings for over 60 years.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 28, at the Paintersville CMA Church, 3195 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown, with an opportunity to view from 10 to 11 a.m. Pastor Solomon Shaffer and Pastor Matt Maloyed of God's Missionary Church will be officiating at the service.

Interment will take place in Paintersville CMA Cemetery, Lewistown.
