Cloyd S. Sunderland

Cloyd S. “Sam” Sunderland, 64, of Lewistown entered the presence of his Lord and Savior at 4:46 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born on Dec. 17, 1950 in Lewistown he was a son of the late Cloyd G. and Erma F. (Price) Sunderland.

Sam is survived by: his wife, Linda L. (Jones) Sunderland, whom he married on May 25, 1973; his children, Jennifer L. Sunderland, of McVeytown, Lee J. Sunderland, of Lewistown, Theresa Day, of McVeytown; two grandchildren, Robert A. Day, of New Hampshire, and Caleb I. Sunderland, of McVeytown; siblings, George J. Sunderland and wife, Lisa, of Huntingdon, David M. Sunderland and wife, Susan, of Allentown, Terry L. Sunderland and wife, Jean, of McVeytown, Barbara L. Mannino and husband, Cosmo, of Lewistown, and Susie M. Smith and husband, Rick L., of McClure. Sam was preceded in death by a brother, Clare E. Sunderland. He is also survived by a large extended family.

He was a 1968 graduate of Lewistown-Granville High School and had served in the U.S. Army.

Sam worked at Debts Company, J-Wood, and in 2009 retired from the Lewistown Borough.

Sam loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, and Pappy. He was a good friend and always willing to help others. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, shooting, and trapping.

A funeral service, with VFW Post 7011 honors, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown with the Rev. Howard Houtz officiating.

A viewing will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24 and from 10 – 11:00 a.m. Weds. at the funeral home.
