Betty E. Mitchell, 93, of State College and formerly of Lewistown, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018, at Juniper Village at Brookline.
Born Aug. 8, 1924, in Burnham, she was the daughter of the late C. Edward and Agnes (McNerlin) Leeper. On Aug. 30, 1947, she married Donald Elder Mitchell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: husband, Donald Mitchell, who passed away in December 2009; three brothers, Lewis Leeper, who died serving during World War II, Melvin Leeper and Dale Leeper; two daughter-in-laws, Barbara Perry Mitchell and Elizabeth Claxton Mitchell; a grandson-in -law, Christopher Mank.
Betty is survived by: children, Daniel S. Mitchell, of Livingston, Mont., Stephen D. Mitchell and his wife, Nancy, of State College, and Thomas E. Mitchell and his wife, Laurice, of Bellefonte; nine grandchildren, Logan Mitchell (Megan), Lindsay Mitchell, Caitlin Mitchell, Matt Mitchell (Erin Agrimson), Meghan Reimann (Jim), Jennifer Winget (Nate), Stephanie Brand (James), Keith Mitchell (Ang), and Corinne Mank; two stepchildren, Lisa Hauswirth (Greg), and Brian Kuritzky; nine great-grandchildren; and very dear friends, Jane Leiter and her son, Cork.
Betty graduated from Burnham High School, Class of 1942 and attended Thompson Business College. She worked as a secretary at Standard Steel in Burnham until her marriage and then became a homemaker. She was a member of the Little Valley Presbyterian Church, Vira.
A receiving of friends will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. James Park Bricker officiating. Interment will be in the Little Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery following the service.
